What is the difference between Hastelloy C276 and B3?

Hastelloy B-3 is a nickel-based corrosion-resistant alloy composed primarily of nickel (Ni) and molybdenum (Mo), and its chemical composition is similar to that of Hastelloy C-276, but with a certain amount of niobium (Nb) added. Its grade number is UNS N10675.

The following are the specific compositions of Hastelloy B-3 and their content ranges:

Nickel (Ni): remainder
Molybdenum (Mo): 26-30 %
Niobium (Nb): 3-4 %
Chromium (Cr): 1.5 %
Iron (Fe): remainder
Manganese (Mn): 1.0%
Silicon (Si): 0.10 %
Carbon (C): 0.01%
Phosphorus (P): 0.02%
Sulfur (S): 0.03%
Hastelloy B-3 can be manufactured into different shapes by hot and cold working. Heat treatment at elevated temperatures improves its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.

Hastelloy B-3 has excellent corrosion resistance and can perform well in a wide range of corrosive environments. In addition, it has good mechanical properties such as high strength, high ductility and high hardness.

Hastelloy B-3 can be welded by TIG, MIG and arc welding methods. It is recommended to use the same material for welding to ensure corrosion resistance in the weld area.

Hastelloy B-3 is primarily used in high-temperature corrosive environments in the chemical, oil and gas extraction, paper and pharmaceutical industries. It is commonly used in the fabrication of equipment such as chemical reactors, oil extraction equipment, storage tanks, piping and heat exchangers.
