What is Inconel 601 material?

Inconel 601 is a nickel-based alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength that is widely used in industrial applications in high-temperature, corrosive and corrosive/thermal fatigue environments. Below are details about Inconel 601:

Specific Grades:

Common grades of Inconel 601 include UNS N06601, W.Nr. 2.4851.

Specific Composition:

The main components of Inconel 601 are as follows:

Nickel (Ni): 61-65%.

Chromium (Cr): 21-25%

Aluminium (Al): 1-1.7%

Copper (Cu): 1%

Titanium (Ti): 0.1 per cent

Iron (Fe): the balance

Production Standards:

Production standards for Inconel 601 include ASTM B166, ASTM B167, ASTM B168, AMS 5870, and others.

Forging:

Inconel 601 can be forged by conventional hot working methods, including hot rolling, hot extrusion and hot forging. The most common forging temperatures are 950-1175°C.

Heat Treatment:

Inconel 601 can be treated by a variety of heat treatment methods, including annealing, solution treatment and aging treatment. The annealing temperature is generally 1000-1200°C, the solution treatment temperature is generally 1150-1200°C, and the aging treatment temperature is generally 870-925°C.

Cold working:

Inconel 601 can be processed by conventional cold working methods, including cold rolling and cold drawing.

Corrosion Resistance:

Inconel 601 has excellent corrosion resistance, especially at high temperatures, in strong acids and bases, and in oxide-containing environments. It is resistant to corrosive media such as chlorides, sulphates, fluorides, nitric acid and phosphoric acid.

Mechanical Properties:

The mechanical properties of Inconel 601 depend on the treatment and temperature. At high temperatures, Inconel 601 has good high temperature strength and creep resistance. Its typical mechanical properties are as follows:

Yield strength: 410 MPa at 0.2% yield strength

Tensile strength: 760 MPa

Elongation: 30%

Properties:

Inconel 601 has the following properties:

Good corrosion resistance

High temperature strength and creep resistance

Good oxidation and thermal fatigue properties

Welding material grades:
Commonly used Inconel 601 welding materials include ERNiCrFe-11 and ENiCrFe-11.

Application areas:
Inconel 601 is widely used in the following fields:

Petrochemical: such as furnace tubes, heater tubes, reactors and catalyst carriers, etc.
Aerospace: such as gas turbines, aircraft engine nozzles, etc.
Heat treatment industry: such as high temperature furnace pipe, annealing furnace pipe, etc.
Nuclear industry: such as nuclear reactor pipes, nuclear reactor fuel elements, etc.
Environmental engineering: such as sewage treatment equipment, flue gas desulphurisation equipment.
Overall, Inconel 601 has excellent performance in high temperature, corrosion and corrosion/thermal fatigue environments, and is widely used in many fields.
